Discuss the events of the Revolutions of 1848 that you believe should included in a time line. You may search the web for pictures and link them to your event.
My controbution to the time line would be the German Revolution-its significance-the black and gold colors of the flag still in use.
I believe the French Revolution of 1848 should be included in the timeline. This revolution was ignited by the ideas of nationalism and democracy. Louis-Philippe, the French monarch at that time, was eventually overturned and a republic was established. However, this republic quickly failed causing the people to make France more of a moderate democracy. It included Parliament as the government along with a president elected by the people.
The Industrial Revolution was in 1848 in the process of transforming Europe. The process was uneven. It had begun in England in the late 18th cenury, but by 1848 was well advanced in France and the Low Countries as well as areas of Germany. Further east it had not yet made a significant impression. The Industrial Revolution was building two important classess with different experiences and hence social outlooks. The middle class was expanding and becoming increasingly affluent as a result of the new industries. Meanwhile the rapidly expanding working class was finding it difficult to earn even the bare minimum needed to survive.
The event that could be added to the time line is: The Independence of Greece. Greece wanted to separate from Ottoman control, and the only way they thought possible was by war. By driving the Ottomans out of Greece, they could be free of control. They could also create their own state.
The significance of the Greek Flag: the nine stripes symbolize the number of syllables in the phrase "Eleutheria H Thanatos!", which translates to "Freedom or Death!". This was the battle cry during the revolution against the Ottoman Empire.
The American Revolution, where raiders dumped 342 chests of tea into the water, this was called the "Boston Tea Party". This lead to British soldiers and American militiamen exchanging gunfire in Massachusetts. The colonists asked for rights as people in Britain but the king refused. In 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Us_declaration_independence.jpg, which we still use today!
During the year 1848,some countries in Europe participated on what is know as the Industrial Revolution. There were a were a series of political upheavals that started in France and soon move throughout Europe. These revolutions arose from a wide variety of causes. There had been numerous changes taking place in European society throughout the first half of the 19th century, such as the reshaping of national governments, technological changes were revolutionizing the life of the working classes and new values and ideas came to life such as popular liberalism, nationalism and socialism. There were also economic factors that produced a series of economic downturns. I would include the Greece independence to the timeline.

German exiles who fled to the United States became supporters of the American agreement in support of liberalism abroad.
I belive that the Panthéon should be in the timeline it is a building in the Latin Quarter in Paris. It was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve and is an extreamly beautiful building and piece of history.
