2012 will be the year of another presidential election. This means the presidential debates are back. I recently saw on television, one of the Republican Primary debates. The Republican presidential candidates included Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul. As we know, however, Herman Cain withdrew from the race for the GOP nomination in early December. During the debates, each candidate explained to the public about what they would do for the country if they got elected for president. They discussed their beliefs on how the United States can become better and on how its problems can be fixed. There will be more debates airing on the news channels over the next few weeks. Happy Holidays.

In March of 2011, a massive earthquake struck Japan. A tsunami followed. Among the devastation, one of the country’s main nuclear power plants, Fukushima Daiichi, was damaged. Nuclear wastes intoxicated the area, and surrounding cities were forced to evacuate. The nuclear disaster was rated of utmost danger, a level 7. With safely features failing, experts scrambled for months to prevent a worldwide nuclear catastrophe.
Last Friday, the Japanese prime minister declared that temperatures at the plant were steady and cool, the condition called a cool shutdown. The conditions for such are the temperatures remaining below 100 degrees Celsius for a period of time. Now that the plant has reached stable conditions, future steps, such as removing fuel rods, can be achieved.
After months of desperate measures to keep temperatures low, this announcement is a milestone. Although the plant is still far from safe, one more safely concern is checked off. As soon as officials can examine the inside of the plant, the situation can be further analyzed. However, nuclear wastes are still widespread and are not expected to be cleared for decades.

My current event is the new booster seat law.

The new booster seat law says that a child 8 years or younger, or under 4 feet 9 inches must be in a booster seat. The old booster seat law said that a child 6 years or under, and 60 pounds or less must be in a booster seat. This new law was put into effect because many children are killed in car accidents. Although the makers of the law have the right idea, they have taken it a little too far. It’s one thing to be six years old and still in a booster seat; but an eight year old, which most are in 3rd grade, is over the top. If I went to school and I still had to sit in a booster seat, I would be embarrassed to come out of the car from a booster seat. When will they stop?

My current event is: Employment Credit Check Law

Employers can no longer request credit reports for Californians unless they are working or seeking work in a financial institution, law enforcement or the state Justice Department.

The law also exempts anyone who
(1) Has access to people's bank or credit card account information, SSN number and date of birth.
(2) Has access to an employer's proprietary information or trade secrets.
(3) Signs a check, credit card, financial contract, or transfers money for an employer.
(4) Has access to more than $10,000 cash.
(5) Is a manager in certain industries'.

This Law was made final on January 1, 2012

Recently, the unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent in December. Brad Sorsen, director of market and secrot analysis at Charles Schwab, says "The jobs picture is improving finally. It's still probably slower than we'd like to see it, but it is improving." In addition, other positive economic reports are also giving hope that we might finally be on the road to the long-awaited jobs recovery.

This is a new law in Utah, making it harder for people to drink and drive if they get caught. I compleatly agree with this law beacuse so many people have died this year or were severly injured because of drunk driving. To bad the law is only in Utah.
"The 2011 legislature changed Utah Code 53-3-231. If the driver is found to have any detectable amount of alcohol in the system while operating a vehicle and is 19 to 21 years old, the Driver License Division can deny the person's license not less than 6 months for a first offense.

If it is a second offense, the driver will be denied a license until age 21 or 2 years, whichever is longer.

If the driver is under 19 years old, the Driver License Division will deny the license not less than one year for a first offense, and until 21 or two years, whichever is longer, for a second offense."

My current even was the capturing of Osama Bin Laden.
President Obama started his SOTUA by declaring he had just visited Andrews Air Force Base, where he welcomed home troops from Iraq, and for the first time in nine years there were no Americans fighting there. It was also telling that he announced Osama bin Laden was no longer a threat, having been assassinated, and the Taliban's momentum in Afghanistan had been broken. But in an empire where two plus two is five, deceit is a friend of the State and an enemy of the People. Thousands of troops still remain in occupied Iraq and Afghanistan. Tens of thousands of security forces still protect corporate hegemony there too. Wanting Americans to be like the Armed Forces and offering them and the American flag a "proud" salute evoked Dante's definition of perverted hatred and contempt for others, namely the rest of the world.
