Peter the Great was a Russian czar and sole ruler of Russia. After his trip to western Europe, Peter became inspired and wanted to westernize, or change, Russia. Peter reformed the culture, military, and economy of Russia. He introduced potatoes into the Russian diet and also changed Russia's traditional clothing for Western fashions. (McDougal Littell, Pg.155) He made military reforms by modernizing and strengthening his army. Even though the Russian army became very powerful, the economy suffered, causing people to pay higher taxes. Peter the Great also built St. Petersburg on the Baltic coast, which boosted the economy and allowed better education towards the West.

Peter the Great brought a lot of change to Russia. He wanted to westernize his country and make it more modern. He spent time traveling around Europe, observing what other contries were doing differently. Here are a few examples of the things he changed:
-He made all the me shave thier beards. Otherwise, they had to pay tax for having a beard.
-He gained control of Russian churches.
-He established schools in Moscow.
Legislations under Peter's rule covered every aspect of life in Russia with exhaustive detail, and they significantly affected the everyday lives of nearly every Russian citizen. The success of reforms contributed greatly to Russia's success in the Great Northern War.

First of all, Peter was one of Russia's greatest reformers.

- he continued the trend of increasing the czar's power.
- he brought the Russian Orthodox church under state control.
- he abolished the office of patriarch.
- he set up a group called the Holy Synod to run the church.
- he reduced the power of the great landowners.
- he recruited men from lower-ranking families and promoted them to positions of authority and rewarded them with grants of land.

Overall, Peter saw this as a way to make Russia stronger.

Peter the Great had the mind of a genius, which made it easy for him to rule. Also, his people loved him because he could make good decisions for them.

In 1698, Peter embarked on the Grand Embassy through Europe to learn western ways, such as new European weapons, clothing, town events, and bigger, stronger armies. All through his travels he picked up many different views of the new ways of the world. When he went back to Russia, he started implementing the western ways. His people did not think change was necessary, so he forced the change upon them and they finally accepted it. They not only changed their way of living and learning, but they also changed their diet with foods such as potatoes.

Peter went to war with Sweden so he could own part of the Baltic coast. The war lasted 21 years, but Russia finally won. In 1703 during the war, Peter started building a new city in Sweden. After the war was over, Peter finished building the new city, called Petersburg, and made the nobles move into the new city. Eventually, Petersburg became a booming port and city, just as Peter the Great wanted.

Peter the Great was a great reformer of Russia. Influenced by the culture of Western Europe, he reorganized the Russian army and longed to make Russia a great power. During Peter's reign the Russian Orthodox Church was reformed. He also founded the city of Saint Petersburg, intending it to become Russia's capital.

The reforms of Peter the Great included bringing the Orthodoxy church into the control of the state, abolishing the patriarchtic offices, lessened the land owner's power and promoted to lower class families into high positions. They owed him everything because he gave them everything and so they were loyal. He westernized Russia by hiring European officers to direct his army and also he set out a rule for all the men cut their traditionally long beards or pay taxes on them.

The late ones are late because I was having trouble sending them to you. But I did do them on time and I have figured out how to send them to you so I think we will not be having that problem anymore.

Peter the Great divided Russia into provinces to aid the government in ruling. He attemped to improve the economy, but his attempts resulted in burdens on peasants. Although many of his reforms were of questionable methods, Russia resulted as a great military power.

Peter was the ruler of Russia, which was isolated. Peter visited western Europe and wanted to change Russia and reform it. He forced the people to folow him, abolished the church, and set up the group called Holy Synod. Then he gave power to farmers and they were very loyal to him. He enlarged his army and to pay for it he taxed heavily. As a resilt he was a very hard determined ruler
