ed as the "nast-y" style (named after Thomas Nast), and the more text-heavy "altie" style that tells a linear story, usually in comic strip format.[original research?] Although their style, technique or viewpoints may differ, editorial cartoonists draw attention to important social and political issues. Political cartoons are an effective way for artists to express their thoughts about the events in a certain period in a comical manner. Cartoons can be very diverse, but there is a certain established style among most of them. Most use visual metaphors and caricatures to address complicated political situations, and thus sum up a current event with a humorous or emotional picture. Often, their content includes stereotypical, biased and/or demonizing portrayals of people and events.Once you have identified the persuasive techniques that the cartoonist used, DISCUSS:

What issue is this political cartoon about? It is about voters being confused for which party to vote for.
What is the cartoonist’s opinion on this issue? All voters are confused when it comes to picking a party, because all the parties lie about everything.
What other opinion can you imagine another person having on this issue? They may think that the end of the Democratic and Republican parties are coming because of the sunset in the background, which implies the sun is setting on the current political time. Another is the waterfall, which may cause someone else to think that the ideas of these parties are dropping to an end. Also, the donkey and the elephant are walking off into the sunset, which suggests that the Democratic and Republican ways are vanishing.
Did you find this cartoon persuasive? Why or why not? Yes; this cartoon has many themes that people can see.
What other techniques could the cartoonist have used to make this cartoon more persuasive? The cartoonist could have used speech or thought bubbles.
This political cartoon is demonstrating how difficult it is for a voter to decide whether to vote for the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. People may also find that this image portrays a person who is unwilling to vote and doesn't want to be involved in politics. I like how the artist made the mascots stand in the back as if they were undercover masterminds, which causes the person to be terrified and confused about them.
I liked both of your comments. Politics have become very stressful. I am very impressed with interpretatons of the cartoon. Good insights.
(Ops my mistake I found a cartoon and analyzed that. Is that okay?)
With a pun on the word "pool," the cartoon depicts a visual metaphor of a college graduate diving from a diving board into the "job pool" which is illustrated by a too tiny pool.
1. College graduates spend money to attend college, to get jobs, but end up in debt and without jobs.
2. The cartoonist's opinion on this issue is that there are not enough jobs for the college graduates.
3. Others may think that graduates are just being irresponsible in not getting a job.
4. I believe it was a great illustration of the issue but I think it was too vague.
5. The cartoonist could have said or illustrated with a little more detail.
The original painting of "The Screamer" conveys turmoil, anxiety, fear, uncertainess, and stress. When applied politically, to voting in particular, this famous work of art, via a political cartoon, describes the voter's response to politics becoming one big joke.
The first clue of the cartoonist's opinion is the two pedestrians on the bridge. They are a donkey, not stereotypically the brightest creature, and an elephant, whose size is its biggest boast. These are the political candidates.
The second clue is the screamer, or voter, in panic and confusion. With politics becoming more and more comercial, it becomes all the more difficult and stressful for the voter to make the right decision. The voter could also be screaming because neither candidate is fitting for their position.
Even though someone may point to a particularly strong candidate and declare the cartoon invalid, I believe, in many cases, this cartoon is becoming increasingly true. In political debates, a candidate will put forth worthless accusations on the other party. Even within a party, questioneers begin critisizing the candidates before the public can make their decision. Because getting re-elected is often a candidate's chief concern, it is harder for a citizen to predict his candidate's reliability.
In order to make the cartoon more persuasive, I would insert bags of money into the animals' hands. This would emphasize a chief concern of many candidates, money and re-election. Not the country.
I believe that this political cartoon of "The Screamer" is, overall, a warning to Americans to choose their candidates carefully. After all, few would want a donkey for president. Or an elephant while you're at it.
This cartoon used the traditional style. This political cartoon is about a voter that doesn't know whether to vote for the Democrate or the Republican. The cartoonist's opinion of this issue is that you really dont know who your're voting for. Another opinion I can imagine another person having on this issue is that the views of the Democrate and the views of the Republican aren't clear. I didn't find this cartoon persuasive because I find the views of the Democrate and Republican to be clear. To make the cartoon more persuasive the cartoonist could have added a quote in the cartoon.
1. The cartoon is about a voter confused about whom to vote for.
2.He doesn't have an opinion; he is so confused he is screaming.
3.Another opinion someone could have is, the voter is turning there back on the representatives because they are to confuse to vote, so he is not voting. He is simply walking away
4. No, because at the moment I do not have a political view.
5. The artist could use straight issues of wavy ones and that would explain the picture better
It seems the voter is confused and "scared to death" about what is to come of us if the voter votes for either party. It looks like the end is coming in the cartoon.

This political cartoon is about the voter being scared to pick between the democrat party and the republic. I think some people can relate to this cartoon because not each side is perfect.I found this cartoon persuasive because many others can relate to it. also thought the cartoonist did a good job I would not want anything changed.
